Accessibility Statement
Website accessibility statement in line with Public Sector Body (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018
This accessibility statement applies to: https://www.decodeme.org.uk/
This website is run by Action for M.E., on behalf of DecodeME run by the Project Team at the University of Edinburgh. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 350% without the text spilling off the screen or loss of content;
- navigate to most content using a keyboard only
- using your browser settings, change most colours, contrast levels and fonts;
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
- there is no flashing, scrolling or moving text;
- use the website without encountering any time limits.
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
Customising the website
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability. This is an external site with suggestions to make your computer more accessible:

How accessible this website is
We continue to improve our website to meet accessibility standards but we know some parts are not fully accessible:
- It is not possible to navigate to all content by keyboard only
- Colour contrasts do not necessarily meet the recommended Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA standard
- Not all links indicate whether they open as a new pop-up or browser window
- Not all links are formatted correctly to give a clear indication of their destination
- Tooltips are not present for all non-text content and alternative text is not always accurate
- There are areas whereby assistive technology such as voice recognition and screen readers do not work as well as others
- How a user is alerted to data input errors is not consistent
- There are captions that have not been human corrected.
- Not all non-text content has text alternatives

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
At this time, we do not believe that any content is outside the scope of the accessibility regulations.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We will continue to address the accessibility issues highlighted, working with the external developer, to deliver a solution or suitable workaround. We continue consulting with DecodeME PPI SG (Patient and Public Involvement steering group) to address these issues in a seemly manner.
Unless specified otherwise, a complete solution or significant improvement will be in place for those items within the Universities’ control by February 2024.
While we are in the process of resolving these accessibility issues, or where we are unable, we will ensure reasonable adjustments are in place to make sure no user is disadvantaged.
As changes are made, we will continue to review accessibility and retest the accessibility of this website.
