We analysed  DNA samples from people with ME/CFS and compared them to the DNA of people without ME/CFS to look for genetic differences between the two groups. We conducted a type of research called a genome wide association study (GWAS), which is a very large genetic study that aims to uncover biological roots to a disease. Our GWAS looked at over 8 million places across the genome to reveal areas where the genetic code differs between our participants and those without ME/CFS. These differences can point to genes and systems that play a role in someone developing the illness.

You can read more about the science behind the study here.
